Eco-conscious products that are both affordable and convenient are sought after by everyone trying to live a greener lifestyle. Many online shops carry eco-conscious products, but we all long for a product we can access now - when we realize the shampoo is gone during our morning shower or during a regular convenience shopping trip for prescriptions and toothpaste.
Walgreens is filling that need with a new exclusive line of products from Ology. They offer baby, personal care, and cleaning products that are free of harmful chemicals, as well as paper products that are 100% tree-free. These include laundry products, shampoos and conditioners, tissues, and light bulbs, and more.
I had the opportunity to test a few Ology products and see whether they met Ology's claim of "affordable and accessible." I visited my local Walgreens with $15 and a mission to review as many products as possible. With the help of an Ology flyer, I was able to view my options and see the variety of Ology products available throughout the store.
The All-Purpose Cleaner at $3.99 for 26 oz topped my list, but it was all gone due to a current sale. I decided to try a laundry product instead and settled on the Ology Spring Lavender and Vanilla Laundry Detergent and Liquid Fabric Softener. These were both on sale, so I had enough to try a paper product. The computer paper tempted me, but I remembered our empty paper towel roll at home, so I picked up the Ology Ultra Absorbent Paper Towels. I was pleased to leave the store with three needed cleaning products for just under $15.
We all experience sensitive skin at my house, so I generally purchase free and clear detergents, but decided to try Ology since it plant based and uses no dyes, artificial fragrances, or phosphates. I also appreciate that the bottle is made from 100% post consumer materials. The bottle is small, but claims to clean 33 loads, depending on the load size. It also claims to fight tough stains. I also don't generally use fabric softeners, but decided to try it for the same reason.
I found both the detergent and fabric softeners to be mild smelling, although I've discovered that lavender certainly isn't my preferred scent. They do a fine job of cleaning a standard load of laundry, although the detergent was no match for baby food stains. I liked the mild scent on my clothing and it didn't cause any skin reactions, so I appreciated the fact that we didn't need the scent free version.
The paper towels intrigued me because it is made of regularly renewable sugar cane husks that would otherwise be disposed. The look of the paper towels is a good one and they work fine for small messes and drying hands. Unfortunately, they fall apart fairly easily when wet, so these certainly won't be the go-to towel for spills and big messes. I definitely appreciate the search for new paper product sources, however, and would consider purchasing them in the future - especially since I'm trying to cut down on paper waste and using paper towels for every mess anyway!
Overall, I found the Ology products I tried to be good, solid efforts in eco-friendly living. I am interested in trying some of their other products, including tree-free computer paper. The All-Purpose Cleaner is also still on my list. If you're seeking convenient, eco-conscious products, then you should certainly try a Ology product on your next visit to Walgreens.
