Imagine your favorite applesauce, slow cooked using apples straight from the orchard, then infused with a variety of natural, delicious flavors? Big Slice isn’t your standard kid’s applesauce, but delicious, kettle cooked, sliced apples in 16 different sauces, from basic to decadent.
Our family had the opportunity to try 6 different Big Slice flavors and they became an instant hit. My 5 year-old was uncertain at first, but my 7 and 2 year-old dug right in with dueling spoons. We opened cinnamon french toast first and I felt a bit guilty that we didn’t wait for my husband to try it. This flavor, from the luxe line, truly has that apple french toast flavor without all of the sugar and calories. It is definitely a flavor I would purchase again.
Big Slice apples come in easy to grab, on the go packages. We simply tore off the top and dug in with our spoons. These convenient pouches would make a perfect addition to a lunchbox as a side or dessert. They would be a great snack to store in your cubicle when the vending machine calls, since they don’t require refrigeration.
Our family also enjoyed mixing Big Slice with granola and vanilla yogurt for breakfast or lunch. The
simplicity apples from the pure collection appealed to my skeptical son and made a delicious addition to granola for the less adventurous eater. While cherry vanilla proved a bit too sweet for my taste, it appealed to my daughter and she finished the pouch herself.
Pineapple passionfruit fiber from the fit line proved a tropical delight. I appreciated the addition of fiber and that the product is naturally fat free and gluten free. Grandma Hoerner’s, the creators of Big Slice, recommend tossing one of these into your gym bag, although I’d probably be more likely to grab a cinnamon candy or blueberry pomegranate over peach green tea & aloe or raspberry hibiscus & green tea coffee extract, though.
The boysenberry chocolate flavor from the luxe line intrigued me and I wondered if it could truly shine as a dessert substitute. After trying this rich, indulgent flavor, I can say that it definitely would. This flavor proved delicious added to granola and yogurt or even mixed with a bit of fat free cool whip. It doesn’t need to be added to anything to be enjoyed, but it’s fun to experiment with flavors.
Big Slice kettle cooked apples from Grandma Hoerner’s Foods are now available at Super Targets. This doesn’t put them in my local Target yet, but I’m hoping to find it in the grocery aisle there soon – I
really want to get my hands on the caramel flavor! Each Big Slice purchase also benefits the SPARKLE! Foundation, which helps women in need.
