Tooth fairy pillows, rain hats, backpacks, snow pants, luggage tags, hair cutting capes, and storage bags – these are just a few project ideas for using waterproof PUL fabric. Last year, I tried Babyville Boutique PUL fabrics for the first time, trying my hand at a swim diaper. I appreciated the quality and variety of Babyville Boutique’s fabrics and notions and was excited to experiment with new PUL projects this year.
I received the 51 PUL Projects pattern book, along with the Little Pirates and Skulls PUL Pack and a variety of fun notions. I immediately saw a variety of projects my family could use, including a tub organizer, place mats, and a toddler backpack. My littlest has been longing for a backpack like his sibling, so I decided to modify the Monster Backpack pattern using the pirate variety pack of PUL.
In retrospect, I probably should have chosen a simpler project first, simply because the backpack required some sophisticated matching and zipper sewing. I found figuring out how to adjust the zipper foot on both the left and the right a bit tricky, but felt proud of my accomplishment when I figured it out.
I expected the PUL to be tricky to work with, but was pleasantly surprised by the ease of using it. The Boutique pirate themed labels also added a fun touch to my backpack project and I can’t wait to find a fun place for the “Geek in Training” patch. I’m excited to create a wrist wallet for my daughter and place mats in future projects using PUL.
This project also inspired me to find a way to use the adorable PUL scraps I had leftover from my
swim diaper and backpack projects. I adore cloth diaper key chains and Christmas ornaments and decided to try my hand at making my own. You can find my step by step instructions for creating cloth diaper key chains here.
Babyville Boutique also sent me some fun new notions to try and I have future projects in mind for each one of them. I loved the idea of the Boutique Monthly Iron-ons, with an iron-on to commemorate each month in a baby’s first year. These adorable themed circles look easy to apply and would make a fun baby shower gift for an expecting mama.
I also received the cowboy themed Boutique Appliques and Grosgrain Ribbon, perfect adding special details to your little cowgirl’s dress and creating a matching bow. For those who love using Babyville Boutique PUL to create cloth diapers, new Boutique Size Tags are also available with graphics to match their PUL themes. These tags add an adorable and practical touch to any diaper and I’m looking forward to adding them to my next project. I even experimented with using them as the ribbon on one of my cloth diaper key chains.
