Vilate at Nifty Nappy is loved and respected in the cloth diapering community as a go-to expert on wool. She created the super-absorbent Nifty Nappy fitted, popularized the innovative one-size wool covers made out of upcycled materials, and showed caregivers that wool is nothing to be afraid of. An experienced mom of six, as well as a successful businesswoman, Vilate is also known for being generous with her time, eager to help, and a terrific problem solver for all things cloth-diapers. If you gathered together a group of internet-savvy cloth diapering moms, there’s a good chance that most, if not all, have received assistance from Vilate at one time or another.
Due to anticipated new CPSIA regulations, Nifty Nappy doesn’t mass produce diapers anymore, but Vilate is still an avid part of the cloth diapering community and offering cottage licenses to make her product. I am also thrilled because she is now offering her own line of Nifty Nappy Laundering Products, including Nifty Soap Nuts, Nifty Liquid Soap Nuts, and Sheep in a Jar Lanolizing Potion #9. This product line is an excellent fit for Vilate, who is always my go-to person for caring for wool.
I received a bottle of the Sheep-in-a-jar Lanolozing Potion #9, which is eco-friendly, hypo-allergenic, fragrance free, and biodegradable – making it just right for cloth diaper prep. Wool makes for a terrific cloth diaper cover because it is breathable, has great absorbency, and does not need to be washed after every use. We have a very heavy-wetter at home and have found Nifty Nappy wool and fitteds to be a great night time combo.
In order for wool to do it’s job well, though, it needs lanolin to add a waterproof barrier. Every two to four weeks (depending on use), a wool cover needs to be washed and lanolized. This is done by combining soap and lanolin. Lanolin can be a bit pricey unless you buy it in bulk, though, and I’ve always wanted their to be a quick product to grab and use, instead of doing so much measuring, dissolving, and mixing. The Lanolizing Potion is just that – all you have to do is dissolve just 1 teaspoon in a cup of hot water, then add it to your bowl of warm water to clean 2 to 4 woolies.
Leave it to Vilate to create a product that simplifies things. The potion seems to work so well because it combines liquid lanolin with soap nuts. Using 1 teaspoon every 2 to 4 weeks also means that one jar of lanolizing potion could last awhile, something every thrifty mom loves.
Want to try the Nifty Nappy Sheep-in-a-jar Lanolizing Potion for yourself? Follow the Nifty Nappy facebook page and watch for Vilate to place it for sale there. She is also generously offering one The Inquisitive Mom reader a bottle of the lanolizing lotion, as well as The Liquid Soap Nuts!

I’m showing some MAJOR restraint here… but I won’t enter. I’ve had the AWESOME opportunity to try the Lanolizing Potion already and it is WONDERFUL stuff! 🙂
